Tarkett, a world leader in innovative flooring and surface solutions, is set to host an industry-first webinar event at CFJLIVE. The webinar – How to design for dementia – will explore challenges and explain how they can be overcome through better design. The presentation will include an introduction and demonstration of ‘Through Their Eyes’ - a world-first evidence-based dementia filter and specification tool, which allows users to experience and understand dementia-friendly design through a virtual reality empathy platform.
The filter was the vision of award-winning architect, David Burgher - Director at Aitken Turnbull Architects in Scotland and was developed in collaboration with Glasgow CGI company, Wireframe Immersive and experts from the Dementia Centre, HammondCare, including Professor Mary Marshall who provided the evidence-based research and academic rigour to this product.
“Dementia is a public health priority, we need to promote dementia friendly societies and we need to improve public and professional attitudes to and the understanding of dementia; this was the reason why we were keen to support David and his vision from the off… Our observations focus on floor finishes – and, in more general terms, interior finishes. The presentation provides a unique insight into how those living with dementia see colour and depth perception and we’re really excited to be able to share this ground-breaking initiative with our industry at CFJLIVE,” explained Shaz Hawkins, Segment Marketing Manager, Healthcare and Education (UK&I) at Tarkett.
Tarkett’s webinar will include an initial overview of dementia and the challenges it poses - physical, emotional and economical. It will then explore design challenges, inclusive design and will explain how good design can transform the lives of those living with dementia, as well as those who care for and live in the environment. The presentation will take place at CFJLIVE on Thursday 1 July at 3pm.
CFJLIVE is a free-to-attend global exhibition and the UK industry’s first ever virtual event, bringing together over 100 global exhibitors. It will be broadcast live on 1 July (between 1pm-7pm) from a main stage - at FITA’s training centre in Loughborough - and from exhibitors’ showrooms, offices and factories around the world.
Billed as a ‘must-attend’ event for all sectors of the industry - including flooring contractors, retailers and specifiers, distributors, facility managers, housing associations and designers – CFJLIVE will bring together the industry in real time; crucially, visitors will be able to connect, share knowledge and discuss issues with industry experts within live meeting rooms, and via chat and individual meeting requests.
